Interactive effects between salinity and nutrient deficiency on biomass production and bio-active compounds accumulation in the halophyte Crithmum maritimum

چکیده
Plant bioactive metabolites play a pivotal role in protection against environmental stresses and offer great potential for nutraceutical exploitation. In this sense, halophytes present an exceptional opportunity sustainable saline agriculture since they can massively accumulate under stressful conditions. We investigated the responses of halophyte Crithmum maritimum to increasing salinity, nutrient deficient their interaction. hypothesized that concentration compounds would increase together with salinity deficient, interaction between these two produce synergic effects on accumulation. studied tolerance foliar accumulation nutrients (amino acids, phenols, terpenes fatty acids) C. response deprivation greenhouse controlled The high was not diminished by limitation. Mineral nutrition deficit saturated acid were induced at 200–500 mM NaCl, polyphenol 5-caffeoylquinic some amino acids identified as deficiency markers. responded mainly reducing five total lipids, limitation vaccenic acid. availability provoked antagonistic synergistic acids. showed physiological phenotypic plasticity salt stress, combination.

Effects of salinity on flowering, morphology, biomass accumulation and leaf metabolites in an edible halophyte
The fresh water shortage in agriculture is an increasing problem worldwide, therefore the possibility of cultivating crops under saline conditions is of high importance. Crithmum maritimum, a halophytic plant naturally found on the rocky coastlines of the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, has a long history of human consumption and was recently suggested as a cash crop for biosaline agr...

15 صفحه اولAlleviation of Salt-induced Seed Dormancy in the Perennial Halophyte Crithmum Maritimum L. (apiaceae)
Crithmum maritimum L. (Apiaceae) is a perennial local oilseed halophyte. For a better understanding of the eco-physiology of salt tolerance at the germinative stage of this species, we investigate here the effects of nitrate, thiourea, and priming on its seed germination under saline conditions. Germination was strongly inhibited by increasing salinity. While nitrate supply was effective in all...
